Some of the marketing greats from another era, would easily have understood Content Marketing. One example is August Oetker, who as early as 1891, sold small packages of his Backin baking powder to households with recipes printed on the back. Just ten years later, he published his first cookbook. Over the next 100 years, the cookbook went through various revisions and is still considered one of the most successful cookbooks today, with 19 million printed copies globally.
What Mr. Oetker understood all those years ago, was that he had provided relevant and valuable CONTENT to his clients on the back of those packages!
Today, the web provides us with so much information, so when you come across truly valuable content, you are much more likely to make a note of who provided the information, and what sort of services and products their company provides.
